I’ll cut right to the chase: there are times when you shouldn’t even think about hiring me to help with your content marketing program. I mean, there’s the obvious, like if you don’t enjoy working with someone who can make some amusing small talk while you’re waiting for the third person to join the conference call. And if hearing about running makes you mad, we probably shouldn’t work together, either.

But there are serious reasons not to work with me, too. Like…

You need a full content marketing strategy and solution. If you have a clear idea of what you want and when you want it, and you have someone on your team taking care of the overall strategy, we’ll probably get along just fine. If not, we’re going to struggle, since I’m a content creator and not a strategist. I specialize in writing, and I work well with companies who need writing and already have a strategist on staff or have outsourced to an agency, and have identified content types and timelines.

You’re not sure what you want just yet. Building on the above, I work best with clients who have defined what they want: white papers, case studies, blog posts, and articles to mix in with their other content. They know that top quality is going to cost them, they’re willing to write the checks, and they don’t need guidance on what’s best for them. The exception: if you’re a small business or entrepreneur, I can help you with some strategy. But I take these clients on very rarely – and again, they know what they want.

You need a lot of content types. I write for print and the web. I don’t write for video; I don’t design infographics. My clients come to me because they need someone who can write white papers, case studies, blog posts, articles, and lead-generation and sales enablement content. Honestly, if I tried my hand at video or (heaven forbid) design, I’d be doing my clients a huge disservice. I know what I do best (writing for print), and I know what I don’t.

I want us to have a good, long-term relationship. We can’t do that if we’re not the right match. So if you’re looking to hire me, here’s where you’re at:

  • You have the infrastructure and strategy already in place or are working with a content strategist right now.
  • You want to get to work right now. You know what you want, and you’re ready to get your white papers and case studies written.
  • You’re looking for killer white papers, case studies, blog posts, and articles. Yes, that’s me.

If you’re here, with your infrastructure in place and ready to outsource some written work, let’s start talking.
