WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 24, 2012) – Going head-to-head against 492 copywriters, Christine Parizo of Christine Parizo Communications has won the MarketingExperiments/Copyblogger Subject Line Copywriting Contest. Christine’s subject line, promoting Optimization Summit 2012 in Denver, garnered a 125 percent higher clickthrough rate than the worst-performing subject line.
The contest, run via comments on a blog post on Copyblogger, asked entrants to write a subject line to test in emails to promote the Optimization Summit. From there, judges narrowed down subject lines by choosing eye-catching subjects that fit into one of three categories: curiosity, benefits and fear. The top three headers on Copyblogger then matched up against the top three from the MarketingExperiments blog and were tested via email.
Utilizing the element of fear, Christine’s subject line was “Do your landing pages pass this test?” When MECLABS tested her subject line, email recipients clicked through 125 percent more than they did with the worst-performing subject line. Christine won a pass to the Optimization Summit and a MarketingExperiments Landing Page Optimization Online Course.
“We had 901 total entries in the MarketingExperiments/Copyblogger Subject Line Copywriting Contest,” said Daniel Burstein, Director of Editorial Content, MECLABS. “There are 901 professional marketers who make a living writing subject lines every day. Not did Christine’s headline first catch the judge’s eye to get plucked from this vast ocean of entries, her subject line performed best where it really counts — generating 125% more unique clickthroughs than the worst-performing subject line finalist in a split test of six subject lines.”
