Content marketing seems like it’s constantly evolving. Just a few short years ago, we were all about white papers in the most standard format. Now we’re using a holistic strategy that encompasses multimedia, interactive content, and more to augment our written content. To keep learning this year, I’ve compiled the best content marketing conferences for 2019, where you get the most for your conference budget.
Let’s face it; not all content marketing conferences are created equal. Some may seem like a great deal or a good place to learn, but then you get bad advice. The conferences I’m listing here are the only three you need to attend in 2019; there is no bad advice (like using a cheap freelance writer), no hubris, and no selling. These conferences have ample networking opportunities, if that’s your thing, exhibit floors full of technology to examine, and educational sessions that will give you actionable takeaways to bring back to work. And now, without further ado…
The Three Best Content Marketing Conferences for 2019
Keep in mind these are only in chronological order. I scoured the Internet for conferences, tossing aside ones where either I had a) been to and knew they were full of bad advice; b) didn’t see a real value for hardcore content marketers; or c) I haven’t been to the conference and am leery of steering you to something that won’t help you become a better content marketer.
April 8-10, 2019; San Diego, CA
Why am I putting a content marketing technology conference on the list? Because in today’s world, you need it. It’s no longer enough to put your white paper behind an email capture form, or casually monitor social media traffic. You need CRM, demand generation tools, sales enablement tools, interactive content software – it’s a long list, and it gets confusing. I don’t pretend to know everything about content marketing technology, but what I do know is that, even though I’ve never been to this conference, it’s put on by the same people as Content Marketing World, so it’s bound to be full of sessions, exhibits, and fellow content marketers who can help you solve some of your technology problems or learn about next-generation technology like augmented reality and artificial intelligence. Also, San Diego is a fine, fine city to visit, with plenty of offsite hotels, restaurants, and beautiful places to walk or run before you start a full day of learning.
September 3-6, 2019; Cleveland, OH
If you attend just one content marketing conference this year, make it Content Marketing World. This is, without a doubt, one of the best content marketing conferences of 2019 and has been going strong since 2011. Choose sessions related to demand generation, content marketing strategy, content writing, tools and technology, social media, and more. There’s a full exhibit floor full of vendors, keynote speakers that will leave you inspired and ready to fire up your laptop on the plane ride home, and networking opportunities that range from morning runs to evening receptions. Cleveland is a really cool town, too: again, plenty of hotels, a lakefront view that is gorgeous in the morning, and some great restaurants, as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where Content Marketing World holds its opening reception.
October 16-18, 2019; Washington, D.C.
If you have the budget for a second content marketing conference, go to MarketingProfs’ B2B Marketing Forum 2019. It’s the quirky, fun conference infused with the great Ann Handley’s personality, chock full of great sessions and speakers. Everything is a little tongue-in-cheek, and every session will have great takeaways. I haven’t been to B2B Marketing Forum in a couple years, but I know that MarketingProfs consistently puts on a great conference, with the exhibits, sessions, and networking opportunities you’d expect. The conference is actually in Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C., and the location looks like a nice retreat, but near enough to other hotels and restaurants so that you don’t feel isolated if you need a break.
